From those simple races evolved one of America’s best middle distance runners. Since that time Nicole has set the American record for the indoor 800 meters, won two national championships and represented the USA at the 2004 Olympics. The 2004 Olympian was an excellent runner at West Valley High School in Cottonwood, CA. However with all her talent she never planned to compete in track when she got to high school. In ninth grade, at the urging of her brother Phillip, she went out for the team. Maybe she feels she owes Phillip a bit of gratitude! Her freshman year she placed 9th in the 400 meters at the California Track & Field Championships. Her sophomore and junior year she placed 4th and 2nd respectively in the 800. Her senior season she won the state championship in her marquis event. That summer Nicole won the Junior National Championships and won a silver medal at the Jr. Pan-Am Games running 2:05.61. Nicole lives and trains in Eugene, OR where she is preparing for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials under the guidance of Frank Gagliano, head coach of the Oregon Track Club. Already this season she has posted times of 1:59.91 and 4:08.73. Nicole works part-time promoting the new Eugene Marathon.
